Athen, Greece

Not only did we visit Italy and Turkey, but also Greece. First stop was of course Athens. The first picture show us at the top of the Acropolis. I show this to show you how far up we had to climb to reach the top. It was a hike. The second shows you the The western side of the Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens. It is undergoing restoration so there were acutal workers working there which of course limited access. Anyway, it was pretty awesome having seen it so many times in pictures and then actually standing there looking at it. It was also very cool because we went up in the early morning and there were not many people around by the time we made it up. As we were leaving, was passed huge crowds coming up. Anway, it was great! Enjoy!

Not only did we go to Italy, but we also went to Istanbul! I had to keep saying to myself that I was IN INSTANBUL TURKEY on the continent of ASIA! I just could not believe that I had made it all the way there. It was so interesting. The call to prayer that went out all over the city from the many mosques made the hair on my arms stand up. Very eerie and beautiful at the same time!
The first picture is of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. Very beautiful and also interesting. Again, I could not believe that an island girl at heart was standing in the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey.
It has been a difficult time adjusting to be back from our travels. I have lost interest in work at the moment. Not a good thing. I need to keep working so we can keep traveling!
Have a great night. More pictures to follow!

Positano, Italy

We are back from Italy! All I can say is that it was fantastic! Pictures and words can not describe how wonderful the whole experience was. Pictures is just one of so many beautiful places we visited. This is Positano, Italy. It is literally built into the side of the hills. Walking is up steep inclines. No wonder there are no fat people in Italy! Anyway, after I go through pictures, I will post them here for you all to see.

Thought I would share some pictures for our last week at the beach. Maybe we will get back for part of the holidays. We will see!

Italy, Turkey, Greece

It has been a while since I have posted. It is amazing how fast time has gone by. It flies faster and faster. I can not believe it is already october. It will not be long until the holidays are here. It is incredible to start thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas! YIKES
Anyway, we are off to Italy on Wednesday. We will be staying in Rome for a few days and then boarding a cruise to sail around Italy, stop in Greece and then spend a day in Istanbul, Turkey. I have never been overseas before, so it should be interesting. I am both nervous and excited. I dread the flight but am excited to see another part of the world. Anyway, I will let you know how it goes.
Update on kids...the whirlwind is back from New York and back at school for her senior year at college. I have one more tuition payment to make! I am so excited. Kid #2 is in Orlando for the week, doing work. And kids #1 is about to get his own cell phone store. They are all doing great. Well, bed is calling me. Hope you all sleep well!

Kids are at it again!

Been awhile since I posted. Funny how life gets in the way of spending time on the computer! An update. Youngest daughter is now in New York City working at Columbia university for the summer. She has a lovely room over looking Harlem. One part of me is thrilled she get to spend the summer there, the other part of me (that would be the mom part) just ain't too crazy about the whole thing. I mean she is just a 21 year old young gal from Indiana dealing with life in the biggggggg city. But she is 21 years old, so a mom has to let go and let her do it and be proud of her for trying it. The mom part is still worried which is why you see me at 11:45 p.m. sitting at my computer and looking for air plane tickets for her to fly and meet us for vacation in two weeks. Found tickets roundtrip for under $200 so if she can swing it, I will pay for her to fly there and meet us. I would love to see her and I think she would love to come too so I am hoping it all works out! But worry seems to become part of my life right now. Sure wish someone had told me that being a mom does not end till you die. Seems like there is always something to worry out and fuss about when it comes to your kids! I know it is a universal truth to most parents...just wish I had figured this out when I was contemplating having more than one!
Work has been crazy. We are going to computerized charting in the OR for documentation and charges. Should be interesting. My boss still has not shared with me if he is leaving for a bigger OR in town or staying. Again, just hope this does not affect my job and my freedom that I currently have in my position.
Spent most of my time off working in the yard. Have to say it looks spectaluar! Will post some pictures when I have a chance. Now I need to try to get to sleep! I start work at 6:30 a.m. and is the clock is getting ready to strike midnight, I need to try and get some shut eye! Sleep well everyone!

A change it is coming!

So things at work are starting to get real interesting. People higher than me are putting in for transfers, deals and offers are being made. Who will jump, who will go, who will stay? It sounds like it will get very interesting over the next several months. As for me, I will stay right where I am at! Making my own schedule, making my job up as I go! I just hope the changes will not effect my position and hours. I guess only time will tell where things are going. Should be interesting! Off to fix supper!

The whirlwind is gone

So after a week of my daughter being home for spring break, the whirlwind is gone. The house seems quiet and I have to admit I miss her already. It seems one gets settled into a routine and when the routine is disrupted it can drive you crazy. But then after the routine drifts slowly back into its normal pattern, you miss the whirlwind that whipped in and out of the house, and shook things up a bit. Makes me sad to see her go. We will see her again in a few weeks when she celebrates her 21st birthday so I can look forward to that. Yes, it is true, my baby turns 21! After 28 years of being responsible for other human beings, my responsibilities are slowly shrinking. One part of me feels sad, but the other part feels glad. Now there is time for me and what I want to do. Now I just have to figure that one out!

Frustrations of a GeeChee Girl

As I write this, it is still freezing cold outside with clouds floating by and I am so ready for spring! It is very hard for a soul that was meant to live in the south and on a island to be trapped here in Fort Wayne, Indiana. My soul yearns for sun and warmth and the sounds of the ocean as it's waves lapp against the shore. You see, I was never meant to end up here in the Midwest. Yes, you may point out to me that I was born down the road, but the truth is, I have never really belonged here. I knew it the first time I crossed the causeway onto my small island in South Carolina, that it was where I was meant to live. Not here! So I am sitting here at my computer dreaming of island and wishing very hard for spring to finally arrive!
